More energy from the sun!

Experts have considered that our solar collectors , show a very good maintainance; however they have been in service for 25 years!

Now works began to replace 80 solar collectors (91 m2) for 25 new flat plate collectors from CONSTANTE SOLAR model CU-1208-P (61 m2).

This will increase the energy performance from our current the installation:
25, 346 kWh per year (Solarwatt)
+ 46, 422 kWh per year (new CS CU-1208-P)
= 71,770 kWh / year

which will represent savings of 47% of energy needed for the production of quality hot water.

Work placement BYS

The Hotel Tigaiga accepted one of the British Yeoward School students on work placement as we have done since the beginning of this educational initiative. As in previous years, the placements start the second week in June.

This year Eva, a student from year 11 who had shown particular interest in a work placement in a tourism environment, tri-lingual in English, Spanish and German, cooperated very helpfully with our restaurant staff, reception, housekeeping, kitchen and gardeners.

Again the Loro Parque family has a new members. Two otters from the german Landauer Zoo have recently moved to their new home in Tenerife. These small mammals are now part of the large animal family of the Loro Parque and enrich the biodiversity of the park.

Finally: As counterpart to the “Parque de la Sortija” from Taoro Park today the area heading North (towards the center of Puerto de la Cruz, known as Atalaya gardens) were officially re-opened!

This part of the Taoro Park is a promontory offering excellent panoramic views of the town. It covers an area of 10,000 square metres of gardens, paths, look-out spots, fountains and cascades and a children’s playground.

Disruption due to Icelandic volcano

Following the eruption of a volcano in Iceland flight restrictions remain in place over the European airspace. Consequently there is considerable disruption to flights and to customers’ holiday arrangements.

We appreciate the importance of your holiday and the impact that the closure of the airspace has on your plans, and we understand that some of our clients may wish to revise their travel plans.

The following policy is currently in place: clients who wish to revise their travel plans are able to amend to an alternative travel date without incurring normal administration fees. Any difference in price will be payable, although if the alternative holiday is cheaper than the original, then the difference in price will be refunded. Alternatively customers can cancel free of charge if their flight has been confirmed as cancelled by the airline.

Customers who have booked through a travel agency can contact their travel agent.

The Northern coastal path

The executive committee of the Convenio de Regeneración del Espacio Turístico has approved the drafting of the Northern coastal path, expected to be undertaken in 2010.

It was the idea of the late Enrique Talg, founder of the Hotel Tigaiga in Puerto de la Cruz, as part of a Cabildo landscape initiative.

The North coastal path, which integrates the stretch of Puerto de la Cruz, will be 20 kilometres long. This will start in Santa Ursula as well as Puerto de la Cruz, will travel through La Orotava, Los Realejos and San Juan de la Rambla, covering three protected natural areas: Costa Acentejo, Rambla de Castro and Los Campeches -Tigaiga and Ruíz.

New road signals for our visitors

Road signals of 291 attractions in Tenerife will be adapted to European standards.

The plan was adopted by the Cabildo de Tenerife: The major sites will have, in addition to description of the highlights, a big picture. This makes it easier to be quickly discover by the visiting tourists.

Climate Action

October 24, the International Day of Climate Action will cover almost every country on earth. The most widespread day of environmental actions.

Every event will highlight the number 350—and people will gather at some point for a group photo depicting that all important message: mountain climbers on our highest peaks with banners, churches and mosques engaged in symbolic action, star athletes organizing mass bike rides—and hundreds upon hundreds of community events to raise awareness of the need for urgent action.

At 350.org, all the photos for a gigantic, global, visual petition will be assembled. Tigaiga participates sponsoring the tree planting action at Hogar Santa Rita, Puerto de ls Cruz.
