Strelizie belong to the Musaceae family.
The so-called “flower of paradise” is characterized by bright orange-blue flowers and is one of the most popular souvenirs from the Canary Islands. The cut flower holds, with the right care in the vase, from 10 to 14 days. Here are two important tricks:
- Cut the stems every two or three days with a sharp knife.
- When buying a Strelitzie it usually shows only one of its four to five single blossoms. In the green bud, the ”beak” of the bird of paradise these will be asleep. In the wild, they go on by themselves, but in a vase it is advisable to remove the dried flower at the base of the bud. Then take your thumbs gently into the green bud and help a new orange blossoms to appear.
We wish you a long holiday souvenir with your flowers!
