Tigaiga again among the best in the world, according survey TUI

The Tigaiga has once again been included within one hundred best hotel in the world in a survey conducted by the German tour operator TUI. The choice was between more than 10,000 contracted TUI hotels in 2009-2010.

Our Hotel gets this TUI Holly distinction for the 16th consecutive year.

We want to take this the opportunity thank our employees which provide the high level of guest satisfaction and that makes our guests return year after year.

Compost from our kitchen

The farm “Venta Ecológica” uses waste from the hotel kitchen and our garden.Today, Sandra Kober has explained to our kitchen staff how after several weeks, the compost is produced. This is an excellent organic fertilizer to improve soil and feed our plants, saving chemical fertilizers.

Our gardener – Cristobal – retires

The oldest member of the Tigaiga staff, Cristobal says goodbye after 44 years of professional life along with three generations of the Talg family.However, before he left, he told us a secret: Now retired Cristobal will compensate his care for our 8,000 m2 of subtropical gardens with his dedication to his small bonsai.

Tigaiga Tree Planting

Commemorating the 50th Anniversary since the inauguration of the Tigaiga this year, our staff started reforesting a picturesque spot in the Tenerife hills, planting the first from 50 pine trees in response to a plea from the Tenerife Cabildo.

We want to mark the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Tigaiga in a special way and hope these trees will stand for many decades to come.

The island council recently organised a special course for cookery professionals on how to prepare one of Tenerife’s most famous resources – potatoes. Coinciding with the United Nation’s declaration of 2008 as the International Year of the Potato, the council organised a special course in the Hotel Tigaiga on how to prepare this special tuber. Designed for professionals from bars, restaurants and hotels, well known chefs shared their potato secrets.

The Canarian potatoes are gaining more and more fame within the realms of haute cuisine, so much so that they are known as the caviar of the Canary Islands. If you haven’t tried them yet, don’t miss the opportunity. Ask for papas arrugadas con mojo and enjoy!

Tigaiga celebrates “Día de la Cruz”

Day of the Holy Cross: when the principal crosses of Tenerife are festooned with flowers and other typical adornments. In addition there are great fireworks in Los Realejos and in all towns with the word “Cruz” performances by traditional dancers and musical groups, exhibitions of flowers and plants, religious celebrations and sports events.
