The World Youth Choir (WYC) will bringing together talented young singers aged 17 – 26 from all over the world in Puerto de la Cruz on July 15th.

The choir’s conductors Ragnar Rasmussen and Joseph Vila i Casañas (currently Hotel Tigaiga guests) and repertoire perfectly reflects the cultural diversity of its singers.

The live bands all around contribute to provide good atmosphere on the beach. Besides the usual bonfires,  little boats from banana leaves are built here, which  are then send with a lighted candle on an Atlantic Ocean trip. A really romantic experience which you can join!

*COV6-Tenerife 2010* is hosted by the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife and ITER and co-hosted by the Comission of Cities and Volcanoes (CaV) of the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth’s Interior (IAVCEI) and several international, national, regional and local institutions and organizations. CoV6-Tenerife 2010 is planned as an international forum on volcanic risk managment. Scientific and technical sessions are planned to bring together geoscientists working on active volcanoes, authorities, civil protection specialists, city planners, social scientists, economists, psychologists, educators, health specialists, engineers, mass media and general members of communities living in active volcanoes to exchange and understand their experiences and knowledge in order to evaluate and improve prevention/mitigation actions, land-use planning, emergency management, and all required measurements to improve volcanic risk management in densely populated volcanic regions. This meeting will be also an ideal international forum to discuss about the plus side of living in an active volcanic environments.

The plaza measures 46.5 metres x 10.50 metres, with a total surface of 950 square metres, and 912 metres of usable space. Materials used to make this magnificent carpet are chiefly collected from the volcanic region of Las Cañadas, and the sands’ colours are all totally natural. Some sand is sifted in situ if possible and brought down from Teide almostready for use, the rest is brought down in chunks  that have to be ground and pounded before they can be sifted finely enough for the carpets.

This year the celebration is in the spirit of the motto: « Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, co-operation and peace among peoples ».

The MACEW exhibition in Puerto is made up of works, considered to be the basis of Westerdahl’s collection and is hung in separate, themed rooms. They include paintings by Domínguez himself, Eileen Agar, Juan Ismael, César Manrique and Lola Massieu.

There will be guided tours to  gardens and squares, open days for visitors, a painting contest and a floral photography exhibition. This will be livened up with music and street entertainment.

This event is supported by the City Council and will take place with the contribution of several sponsors.  With the support and enthusiasm of all, we want to attract visitors to our city to enjoy our surroundings: WELCOME!
