The town of La Orotava begins the production of the famous carpets of Corpus Christi.

This year, the main carpet of the Town Hall square is 870 square meters wide and is made with volcanic sands of twelve different colors to be finished by June 30th.

City Sightseeing Santa Cruz

At the end of March the City Sightseeing Bus will start offering guided Hop-On, Hop-Off tours in Santa Cruz on their distinct open-top double-decker buses. The new route of around 45 minutes duration, covers Plaza de España, the market Nuestra Señora de Africa and the Ramblas. Hop On and Hop Off as much as you like at any of the bus stops on the route and see all the best sights and attractions that the mayor city in Tenerife has to offer.

Sunday, 20th Feb: Presentation of adult and child candidates for Queen of the Carnival 2011. Venue: Plaza de los Reyes Católicos.

Saturday, 26th Feb: Exhibition of anticue and classic “Mercedes” cars Venue: Avenida de Colón.

Thursday, 3rd March: Gala Show to Elect the Carnival Queen 2011. Venue & ticket sales: Plaza de Europa.

Saturday, 5th March: Movumento Sensen del Bloko (Brazilian Samba horn section, strings and voices). Venue: Plaza de Europa. Free entrance. Carnival Parade and Grand Ball in Plaza del Charco.

Sunday, 6th March: Shows by Adult Dance Groups from Puerto de la Cruz and Adult Fancy Dress Competition. Venue: Plaza de Europa. Free entrance. Grand Ball in Plaza del Charco, Calle La Marina and Calle Perdomo.

Tuesday, 8th March: XXXIX Veteran Car Rally. Paddock in Avenida Colon.

Wednesday 9th March: “Entierro de la Sardina” (Funeral for the Sardine). Fireworks display and Grand Ball in Plaza del Charco.

Friday, 11th March: from 10 p.m. XVII Men’s Marathon in high heels “Mascarita Ponte Tacon”.

Saturday, 12th March: Grand Puerto de la Cruz International Carnival Parade

The STARMUS FESTIVAL is a unique scientific, artistic and musical event that will take place in Tenerife, an astronomical paradise in Spain.

The Festival, held between 21 and 26 March, 2011, is the brainchild of Dr. Garik Israelian, an astrophysicist at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (Canarian Astrophysics Institute, IAC) and is timed to honour the legendary Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, who became the first man in space fifty years ago.
