The spectacular July fiesta in Puerto is traditionally regarded as ‘The Fiesta’. As always, the highlight of the fiesta occurred with the traditional embarkation of the town’s patron saint la Virgin del Carmen.

She, with the fisherman’s patron saint, San Telmo, were rocked amorously and fervently towards the harbour and embarked for a boat ride into the bay followed by all sorts of games, competitions, junior fishing tournaments, a folklore festival and innocent frolicking in the water.  The old port became a mass of people as thousands gathered to witness the 88th embarkation of the virgin, a tradition which began in 1921.

CIT (Centro de Iniciativas y Turismo), Puerto de la Cruz led by president Dña. Hortensia Hernández, held their anual gala event. This special evening was organised to present awards and pay homage to those who have excelled themselves in their services to the Puerto de la Cruz tourist industry.
